What is the PE and Sports Premium Funding?
The Government has provided funding in excess of £150 million per annum to schools to enable them to improve and enhance PE and Sports provision. The funding is being jointly provided for by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport and will see money going directly to primary school headteachers to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for all their children. The money can only be spent on sport and PE provision in schools.
Possible uses of the funding include:
Hiring specialist PE teachers or qualified sports coaches to work alongside primary teachers when teaching PE
New or additional Change4Life sport clubs
Paying for professional development opportunities in PE/sport
Providing cover to release primary teachers for professional development in PE/sport
Running sport competitions, or increasing participation in the school games
Buying quality assured professional development modules or material for PE/sport
Providing places for pupils on after school sport clubs and residential visits
Improving resources and introducing children to a wide range of physical, social and emotional experiences through sport and PE.
How we will use the funding at Old Town Infant School and Nursery:
Provide cover staff and funding to release teachers for professional development in PE and sport.
Employing specialist sports coaches/teachers to work with all children across the school to ensure a high level of input is available.
Providing professional, specialist sports coaches /teachers to work with all staff across the school to peer coach or model effective techniques so that the quality of sports teaching is strong.
Time devoted to the improvement of PE planning across the school – including the monitoring of its effectiveness.
Promote sport and healthy lifestyles throughout the school in cross curricular areas.
Recognise and reward participation and success.
Increase the sports resources / equipment in school.
Introduce new sports.
Increase the opportunities for pupils to take part in inter and intra school competitions.
Offer PE development and support to Newly Qualified Teachers (NQT).
Enhancing the outdoor space to encourage active participation.
Increase active learning within the classroom.
Promote health and physical fitness to parents.
