  • Emergency Closure

At Old Town Infant School and Nursery we will always endeavour to open the school, regardless of the weather. Please assume the school is open unless you are informed otherwise. We really do try to give you as much notice as possible when this happens, but please be aware that there are many factors that influence school closures.

We must ensure we have enough staff to supervise the children and our staff live some distances from the school in most cases. The staff also have to make arrangements for their own families who are no doubt involved in closures of other places, particularly in the case of snow.

Delivery of school meals, milk and fruit may be interrupted due to the weather and we have no control over this. Transport arrangements for some children can also be disrupted and these are all factors we must take into acount. That is why sometimes it takes a little while to make a decision about whether to close, but we do make the decision as soon as possible.

It is sensible to assume that school is always open.

In the event of having to close the school information will be made available on the following sites:

    • The Borough of Poole's website: www.boroughofpoole.com (under 'Education & Learning Schools & Colleges - School Closures)
    • The School Website
    • By Text
    • Heart FM closures
    • We do not use Facebook to publicise school closures
