  • PSHE/RSE

At Old Town Infant School and Nursery we see Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education as being at the centre of all that we do. The promotion of pupils’ personal development (which includes their social development) is a fundamental aspect of education and underpins all other learning. Through our Jigsaw curriculum, our school environment and our school ethos, we promote pupils’ self-esteem and emotional well-being, and help them to form and maintain relationships, based on respect for themselves and for others.

We follow the Jigsaw scheme because Jigsaw is more than a PSHE Scheme of Work. It fosters a systematic approach to learning  which increases learning capacity underpinned by mindfulness philosophy and practice.

Every Jigsaw lesson from Early Years to Year 2 offers opportunities for children’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural (SMSC) development. It is clearly mapped and balanced across each year group. Jigsaw is designed to provide structured opportunities in every lesson to practise and enhance the five skills associated with the emotional literacy (self-awareness, social skills, empathy, motivation and managing feelings).
