At Old Town Infant School and Nursery we enjoy following the Bournemouth and Poole agreed syllabus for RE, Discovery RE. It is an enquired based approach to learning and each scheme of work gives the children the opportunity to consider a question. The syllabus progresses from Foundation through to the end of Year 6.
We help our children to develop skills of investigation, empathy, reflection, evaluation and attitudes of appreciation, curiosity, open mindedness and self- awareness. Our approach takes the philosophy that children are free to make their own choices and decisions concerning religion and belief. We inform and develop the skills with which evaluation can take place. We ensure that the RE curriculum is accessible to all pupils through differentiation for individuals abilities and needs. The RE curriculum aims to respond to pupils’ diverse needs across the school and to overcome any barriers to their learning. In its own right it makes a unique contribution to the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of pupils.
